ATLANTA – House Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge) recently appointed State Representative Robert Dickey (R-Musella) to serve on the Joint Agricultural Exposition Authority Overview Committee. This committee is responsible for overseeing the Georgia Agriculture Exposition Authority and its management of the Georgia National Fairgrounds and Agricenter.
“I am honored that Speaker Ralston appointed me to serve on the Joint Agricultural Exposition Authority Overview Committee,” said Rep. Dickey. “The Georgia National Fairgrounds and Agricenter is a premier facility that has had a huge impact on our local economy. I look forward to serving on this important committee to ensure the center continues to move in the right direction.”
The Georgia National Fairgrounds and Agricenter is a state-owned, multipurpose rental complex that is open year-round. It contains over 1,100 acres that are specially designed for meetings, conferences, trade shows, livestock and horse shows, concerts, rodeos and RV rallies. It is also home to the official, state-sponsored Georgia National Fair held the fifth Thursday after Labor Day. Since its opening in June 1990, the Agricenter has attracted about 18 million people, generating an estimated economic impact in excess of $1.5 billion.
Representative Robert Dickey represents the citizens of District 140, which includes all of Crawford County, and portions of Bibb, Houston, Monroe and Peach counties. He was sworn into the House of Representatives in 2011, and currently serves as the Vice Chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee on General Government and Secretary on the Agriculture & Consumer Affairs Committee. He also serves on the Banks & Banking, Higher Education, and Energy, Utilities & Telecommunications, and Natural Resources & Environment committees.
