Rep. Sandy Donatucci Appointed Chair of the House Study Committee on Improving Access to Internal Medicine in Underserved Areas

ATLANTA – State Representative Sandy Donatucci (R-Buford) was recently appointed by House Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington) to serve as the chair of the House Study Committee on Improving Access to Internal Medicine in Underserved Areas.

“I am truly honored by Speaker Burns’ confidence in appointing me to chair this important study committee,” said Rep. Donatucci. “As my first opportunity to lead a study committee, I am especially eager to get to work on an issue that affects the health and quality of life for so many Georgians. Too many rural communities face serious barriers to accessing internal medicine, whether due to provider shortages or limited transportation options. I am committed to ensuring that this committee will focus on finding thoughtful, cost-effective solutions to help ensure every Georgian has access to the care they need, regardless of where they live.”

Created by House Resolution 753, this study committee will evaluate the most prudent and cost-effective ways to increase access to internal medicine in rural Georgia communities, with particular focus on those rural communities experiencing health transportation shortages.

Speaker Burns also appointed the following study committee members: State Representative Angie O’Steen (R-Ambrose), State Representative Leesa Hagan (R-Vidalia), State Representative Carmen Rice (R-Columbus), State Representative Gary Richardson (R-Evans), Dr. Jean Sumner, Mercer University, Dr. John Odum, Medical College of Georgia, Augusta University and Dr. Angela Gerguis, Georgia Southern University.

Representative Sandy Donatucci represents the citizens of District 105, which includes a portion of Gwinnett County. She was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2024 and currently serves on the Education, Intragovernmental Coordination and Transportation committees.
