Rep. Shaw Blackmon Appointed to House Study Committee on Base Realignment and Closure

ATLANTA – House Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge) recently appointed State Representative Shaw Blackmon (R-Bonaire) to the House Study Committee on Base Realignment and Closure.

“I would like to thank Speaker Ralston for appointing me to this critical study committee to be a voice for Robins Air Force Base and all of our state’s military personnel,” said Rep. Blackmon. “Georgia has the fifth largest military population in the nation, which is why we must ensure that we have a tangible plan in the event of future base realignments and closures. Protecting our citizens and their livelihood is our top priority in the legislature.”

This fifteen member study committee, Chaired by State Representative Dave Belton (R-Buckhead), is established by House Resolution 1135 and will examine how to protect Georgia’s military installations from a future federal base realignment and closure action.
