ATLANTA – State Representative Sheila Jones (D-Atlanta) today announced that she has selected Ms. DeBorah Howard McMillian as a recipient of the 2023 Yellow Rose/Nikki T. Randall Servant Leadership Award. Rep. Jones presented Ms. McMillian with the award during a ceremony on Wednesday, March 8, 2023.
“I am honored to present this award to a deserving servant leader in our community,” said Rep. Jones. “DeBorah is a woman who faithfully practices acts of kindness and generosity, and she is a great example of what this award was created to be.”
Ms. McMillian is a native of Atlanta. She attended Frederick Douglass High School and is an active volunteer with the school. DeBorah is a member of West Hunter Street Baptist Church and works with the Drama Ministry, Youth Ministry and Lila Seller Missionary Circle. She also serves as a volunteer for various job fairs and meetings.
Rep. Jones introduced House Resolution 310 to recognize and commend Ms. DeBorah Howard McMillian for her dedicated service to Georgia. The Georgia House of Representatives recently adopted this privileged resolution on February 23, 2023.
Governor Brian P. Kemp also recently issued a commendation in Ms. McMillian’s honor.
The Yellow Rose/Nikki T. Randall Servant Leadership Award was created in honor of former State Representative Nikki T. Randall, who became the first African American female elected to the Georgia General Assembly. Former Rep. Randall served as chair of the Georgia Legislative Women’s Caucus. Every year during Women’s History Month, this caucus recognizes women in Georgia who exemplify the leadership and inspiration embodied by former Rep. Randall.

Representative Sheila Jones represents the citizens of District 60, which includes portions of Fulton County. She was elected to the House of Representatives in 2004 and currently serves on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Higher Education. She also serves on the Health, Juvenile Justice and Transportation committees.
