ATLANTA – During the first week of the 2009 legislative session Representative Barbara Sims (R – Augusta) was selected, once again, to serve as Deputy Whip in the Georgia House of Representatives.
House Majority Whip Jan Jones (R-Milton) announced her re-appointment to the coveted role.
As one of only 10 Deputy Whips in the 180-seat House, Rep. Sims will be responsible for helping to shepherd bills through the legislative process.
“I am delighted to have been chosen to remain a deputy whip. Representative Jan Jones is adding additional responsibilities for each of us. We will be tracking bills from start to finish. This is an opportunity to more closely follow and disseminate information to our caucus. As Representative Jones says we are to be the “Information Center” of the House,” said Rep. Sims.
This group of representatives is responsible for analyzing and tracking legislation. Because of these responsibilities, this group also serves as a resource for representatives with questions about legislation.
“In a short period of time Rep. Sims has demonstrated genuine and effective leadership for his district,” said Rep. Jones. “She will be an excellent voice for our caucus in communicating the details of legislation to other representatives.”
