ATLANTA – State Representative Jason Spencer (R-Woodbine) today announced that Georgia’s congressional delegation in the United States House of Representatives supports Spaceport Camden and Camden County’s efforts to attain a Launch Site Operator’s License.
“I am grateful that the entire Georgia congressional delegation in the U.S. House of Representatives recognizes the importance of the project,” said Rep. Spencer. “The Spaceport Camden project will be a success, despite those who oppose this strongly supported effort to make Georgia the next great space state. These members join former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, who recently recommitted his endorsement to the project, as well as Senators Johnny Isakson and David Perdue. With this type of support, Camden County will help to create a unique aerospace legacy for the state of Georgia, and I am glad to have been a part of this opportunity.”
Georgia’s entire congressional delegation in the U.S. House of Representatives recently wrote a letter to Daniel K. Elwell, Acting Administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration, supporting Camden County’s application for a Launch Site Operator’s License under the Office of Commercial Space Transportation.
Rep. Spencer is the author of the Georgia Space Flight Act, or House Bill 1, which passed during the 2017 legislative session. The Georgia Space Flight Act was designed to attract the commercial space industry to Georgia. Rep. Spencer also authored House Resolution 1107 urging the Georgia Department of Economic Development and other relevant state agencies to actively recruit and enhance the commercial space industry to Georgia.
