Rep. Spencer’s Space Flight Bill Heads to Governor Deal

ATLANTA – The Georgia House of Representatives today gave final passage to House Bill 1 sponsored by State Representative Jason Spencer (R-Woodbine). The bill would define procedures for space flight activity in Georgia and will now go to Governor Deal for consideration.

“I’m grateful to the Speaker and to my General Assembly colleagues for seeing the great value in bringing the space flight industry to our state,” said Rep. Spencer. “House Bill 1 paves the way for STEM focused businesses to establish operations and bring jobs to our state and allows Georgia to compete with Florida, Texas and other space friendly states. I was proud to champion this effort to further establish Georgia’s reputation as the No. 1 state in the country in which to do business.”

HB 1 defines procedures for spaceflight activity and limits a willing space flight participant’s ability to sue for damages related to space flight activities for which the participant must give informed consent. This bill introduces an industry standard that is used in all other “space friendly” states.
