Rep. Stephens Named Georgia Water Coalition (GWC) Clean Water Champion

ATLANTA — The Georgia Water Coalition (GWC) honored State Representative Ron Stephens (R-Savannah) Tuesday with a Clean Water Champion Award at their Spring Partner meeting in Covington. Rep. Stephens was honored for his support of Georgia’s rivers, lakes, groundwater and streams during the 2015 legislative session.

“It is an honor to receive the GWC Clean Water Champion Award,” said Rep. Stephens. “Being from Coastal Georgia, I understand how essential the preservation of our water sources is. I would like to thank the members of the Georgia Water Coalition for this honor, and for their faith in me as someone who will fight for their interests under the Gold Dome.”

The Georgia Water Coalition is an association of more than 200 conservation and environmental organizations, hunting and fishing groups, businesses, and community organizations that have been working to protect Georgia’s water since 2002. Their mission is “to protect and care for Georgia’s water resources, which are essential for sustaining Georgia’s prosperity, providing clean and abundant drinking water, preserving diverse aquatic habitats for wildlife and recreation, and strengthening property values.” It is estimated that their organization encompasses more than 250,000 Georgians, while consistently expanding their reach.

“Without putting the proper focus on clean water initiatives now, we run the risk of putting ourselves in danger for the future,” said Rep. Stephens. “We must make these issues a priority.”

Representative Ron Stephens represents the citizens of District 164, which includes portions of Bryan, Chatham, and Liberty counties. He was elected into the House of Representatives in 1996, and is currently the Chairman of the Economic Development & Tourism Committee. He also serves on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Health and the Rules and Ways & Means committees.
