ATLANTA – State Representative Steven Meeks (R-Screven), chairman of the Budget and Fiscal Affairs Oversight Committee, was named by Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington) to serve as the chairman of the House Study Committee on the Exchange, Storage and Coverage of Agricultural Products, Grain and Livestock.
“I am thankful to Speaker Burns for allowing me the opportunity to further investigate the many challenges that our agriculture and livestock industries face in Georgia,” said Chairman Meeks. “Farmers and producers deserve protection from cost inflation, litigation and ever-changing crop prices. Our committee will focus on further identifying these challenges and recommending solutions so that our agriculture industry remains Georgia’s top industry and farmers feel better supported from economic burdens.”
Created by House Resolution 1166, the House Study Committee on the Exchange, Storage and Bond Coverage of Agricultural Products, Grain and Livestock will examine warehouse and bonding policies associated with Georgia’s agriculture industry.
Speaker Burns also appointed the following legislative members to this study committee: State Representatives Robert Dickey (R-Musella), Joe Campbell (R-Camilla), Chas Cannon (R-Moultrie), Patty Stinson (D-Butler), Rob Leverett (R-Elberton) and Beth Camp (R-Concord).
Representative Steven Meeks represents the citizens of District 178, which includes Bacon and Pierce counties, as well as portions of Appling and Wayne counties. He was elected to the House of Representatives in 2018 and currently serves as Chairman of the Budget & Fiscal Affairs Oversight Committee. He also serves on the Agriculture & Consumer Affairs Oversight, Energy, Utilities & Telecommunications, Intragovernmental Coordination and Small Business Development committees and as an Ex-Officio member of the Ways & Means Committee.
