ATLANTA— State Representative Valencia Stovall (D-Lake City) recently hosted a back to school “Read-A-Thon” with members of the Morrow High School Class of 2005 at the Morrow Branch Library in Clayton County.“As a staunch advocate for education, I was thrilled to partner with the Morrow High School Class of 2005 for their ‘Read-A-Thon’,” said Rep. Stovall. “It is imperative that we instill within our children the importance of reading at a young age. I believe that programs such as this are not only good for the community, but for the future of education here in Georgia.”
Representative Stovall partnered with the 2005 Morrow Alumni to host the “Reach Back to Give Back Read-A-Thon” as part of their 15th class reunion projects. The event introduced children, who ranged from 2-11 years of age, to popular children’s literature in an attempt to encourage better reading habits. Subsequent events will be held on the second Saturday of each September, October, and November at the Morrow Branch Library beginning at 10:00 a.m.
“I was honored to play a major role in such an impactful event,” added Rep. Stovall. “The Read-A-Thon was a huge hit, and energy from the children and volunteers filled the library. This event would not have been possible without the support of the Morrow Branch Manager, Francis Adebola-Wilson, and I was elated when he agreed to add this event to the calendar for the remainder of 2015.”
Representative Valencia Stovall represents the citizens of District 74, which includes portions of Clayton County. She was elected into the House of Representatives in 2012, and currently serves on the Code Revision, Education, Interstate Cooperation, and Small Business Development committees.
