ATLANTA – State Representative Valencia Stovall (D-Forest Park), along with the National Leadership Group, Inc., will host the second annual “Legacy Builders” virtual recognition and awards event to celebrate Georgia’s Single Parent Day on Saturday, August 22, 2020, at 2 p.m. To participate in the virtual event, please contact Rep. Stovall at valencia.stovall@house.ga.gov or 404-656-0314.
The “Legacy Builders” virtual recognition and awards event seeks to honor single parents from across Georgia, and this year’s event will recognize seven finalist and nineteen honorees. Awards will be presented for public service, education, faith, arts and entertainment, business ownership, community service and medical and health. The in-person event was originally scheduled for March 21, 2020, but due to current circumstances, it had to be postponed.
“The dedication and strength single parents exude, regardless of gender, cultural diversity or economic status, is an extremely admirable act, and these parents deserve recognition especially during this unprecedented, worldwide pandemic,” said Rep. Stovall. “This year’s event will not be possible without the support of our many sponsors.”
“Single parents contribute to the success of their communities,” said Beverly Brewster, executive director of National Leadership Group, Inc.
This year’s sponsors include The Roy B. Robinson Company, LLC; Georgia Power; McGuireWoods Consulting; Bey & Associates, LLC; Georgia Association of Convenience Stores; Total Teen Icons; Interdenominational Church Ushers Association of Georgia; Stromanenterprise; Single Parent Alliance & Resource Center; Straightway Medical Billing, Inc.; Vereen Insurance Agency, LLC; Jaby, Inc.; D.J. Woodbury; and the Georgia Charter Schools Association.
Authored by Rep. Stovall, House Resolution 279 was signed into law in May 2018 to designate March 21 of each year as Single Parent Day in Georgia.
