ATLANTA— State Representative Valencia Stovall (D-Lake City) will lead the Georgia House of Representatives in recognizing Christopher and Kyle Massey on Thursday, February 18, 2016.
“The ability to honor our youth who are making significant impacts in communities across this state and internationally is always a cherished moment for me as a legislator,” said Rep. Stovall. “Recognizing the Massey brothers as we reflect during Black History Month will be even more memorable.”
Christopher and Kyle Massey have careers in television, music, animation, theater and production that span over 23 years in these industries. They have made television history by being the first siblings, as well as the first African Americans, to simultaneously be nominated for an Emmy in the same category for outstanding children’s programming. Kyle was nominated for his role as Cory Baxter, the brother to Raven-Symone on the Disney Channel’s “That’s So Raven,” and Christopher was nominated for his role as Michael Barrett, best friend of Jamie-Lynn Spears in Nickelodeon’s “Zoey 101,” a show that has been on air since its original premier date in 2005. Kyle was also the first African American male to have a spin-off show, “Cory in the House,” on the Disney Channel, premiering at 7.6 million viewers, and Christopher was the only African American on Zoey 101. Both dedicate themselves to philanthropy with Starkey Hearing Foundation as world-wide ambassadors to giving the gift of hearing in underdeveloped countries, and they are also ambassadors for Listen Carefully, a national campaign to educate students on hearing prevention loss. Locally, Christopher and Kyle are long-time supporters of Christian Care Center, an organization that provides free high quality care to terminally ill patients and special needs children in Union City, Georgia.
The Massey brothers will be recognized with House Resolution 1105.
