ATLANTA – State Representative Tangie Herring (D-Macon) was sworn into office as a member of the Georgia House of Representatives on Monday, January 13, 2025, marking her first day of the 2025-2026 legislative term.
“I am deeply honored to represent the people of District 145 in the Georgia House,” said Rep. Herring. “As a 28-year classroom teacher, I know the challenges our families and communities face, and I am ready to bring my experience to the Capitol to advocate for meaningful change. I’m particularly excited to serve on committees that will allow me to address the unique needs of urban areas, champion economic development and tourism, and ensure Georgia continues to grow and thrive.”
In addition to being officially sworn in, the Georgia House of Representatives’ Committee on Assignments named Rep. Herring to the Code Revision, Economic Development and Tourism and Urban Affairs committees.
The House Committee on Assignments, chaired by House Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington), is charged with making all House committee assignments for the members of the Georgia House of Representatives.
Rep. Tangie Herring represents the citizens of District 145, which includes portions of Bibb and Monroe counties. First elected in 2024, she brings nearly three decades of classroom teaching experience to her role as a legislator. Her priorities include improving public education, expanding access to mental health resources in schools and fostering economic opportunities for her district.
