ATLANTA – State Representative Kevin Tanner (R-Dawsonville) recently served as a featured speaker at the Atlanta Regional Commission’s (ARC) 2018 State of the Region breakfast on Friday, November 2, 2018. Rep. Tanner spoke to 1,400 leaders from across the state about leadership and the importance of collaboration when tackling key issues around Georgia.
“We have a lot of difficult issues in our state that need to be addressed. Having worked for the last two years on transit with some amazing leaders, I am confident that together we can take on any issue, solve any problem, and move the highest mountain,” said Rep. Tanner. “It’s important to listen to people carefully and be willing to go against the grain or tradition.”
“Together, we can bring a novel and some would say naïve idea to the political world, an idea that seems so simple, which is often lost in this arena,” continued Rep. Tanner. “Now is the time to listen to one another, to work with one another, and to lay our personal ambitions aside for the greater good of those we have been called to serve.”
Rep. Tanner sponsored House Bill 930 during the 2018 legislative session that created the Atlanta-region Transit Link Authority (The ATL), which provides new opportunities to expand and better coordinate mobility options across the Atlanta region.
Doug Hooker, Executive Director of the Atlanta Regional Commission, was encouraged by Rep. Tanner’s message to the ARC’s attendees.
“Rep. Tanner provided a terrific blueprint for how our region and state can tackle the top issues that will define our future,” Mr. Hooker said. “His words were truly inspirational: We must work together, we must listen to one another, and we must not be afraid to take risks when faced with the challenges to come.”
“To my knowledge, Rep. Tanner’s talk is the only time we’ve had a legislator give a significant presentation during a State of the Region Breakfast event,” added Hooker.
