Rep. Terry England Named Co-Chair of NCSL Agriculture and Energy Committee

ATLANTA –State Representative Terry England (R-Auburn) has been named Co-Chair of the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) Agriculture and Energy Committee.  Massachusetts State Senator and NCSL President Richard T. Moore appointed Rep. England to a term that began July 2010 and expires in August 2011.

“I’m honored to serve as co-chair of a national committee that oversees two of our state’s biggest economic engines,” said Rep. England. “Not only is agriculture Georgia’s number one industry, but we also have some of the lowest energy prices in the country.  I look forward to working with leaders from around the nation to find ways for us to further improve these two key areas.”

The Agriculture and Energy Committee is one of NCSL’s 12 standing committees.  According to NCSL, the Agriculture and Energy Committee is charged with protecting states’ interests regarding agriculture and rural development, natural resources, and energy and electric utilities.

“Rep. England brings a great deal of knowledge and experience to the table,” said NCSL President Moore.  “I am pleased he has accepted the appointment, and I look forward to his valuable contributions to state public policy over the next year.”

In addition to his position on the NCSL committee, Rep. England is also Vice Chairman of the Georgia Agriculture and Consumer Affairs Committee.  Just this year, Rep. England worked closely with Governor Perdue and other legislators in writing the 2010 Water Stewardship Act.  Rep. England was especially helpful in writing portions of the Act relating to outdoor watering, such as agricultural and landscaping irrigation.

NCSL is a bipartisan organization that serves legislators and staffs from the nation’s 50 states. It provides research, technical assistance and opportunities for policymakers to exchange ideas on the most pressing state issues and is an effective and respected advocate for the interests of the states in the American federal system.
