ATLANTA – State Representative Erica Thomas (D-Austell) recently led the Georgia House of Representatives in recognizing Buffalo Bills’ defensive tackle Marcell Dareus during a morning order in the House chamber on Tuesday, March 14, 2017. Rep. Thomas sponsored House Resolution 530 to honor Dareus’ achievements.
“Marcell Dareus is a distinguished gentleman with a kind and wavering heart for children,” said Rep. Thomas. “We both spent years in the foster care system and vowed to use our success to help other children growing up in similar situations which is an effort we are both extremely passionate about as a result of our experiences. In the state of Georgia there are over 13,000 children in foster care, and I hope to make an impact on as many of these children as possible.”
Marcell Dareus received recognition for his athletic talents as a defensive end at the University of Alabama and was drafted in the first-round and third overall by the Buffalo Bills in the 2011 NFL Draft, the highest draft pick in team history since 1985. In addition to his athletic achievements, Dareus works with the Housing Authority of the Birmingham District to give out Thanksgiving meals to seniors, hosts veterans to watch NFL games from his suite and has donated $25,000 to Hope for Haiti, an organization that is rebuilding Haiti after it fell victim to natural disasters.
