Rep. Tim Fleming Works to Secure GDOT Funding for Williams Road and City Pond Road Improvements for the City of Covington

ATLANTA – State Representative Tim Fleming (R-Covington) today announced that the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has approved approximately $2.3 million for road improvements for Williams Road and City Pond Road to support the Archer Aviation project in Covington. Rep. Fleming worked with Governor Kemp’s office and GDOT officials to secure the funding for this economic development project.

“I would like to thank Governor Kemp and GDOT Commissioner McMurry for the approval of these transportation funds for upgrades on Williams and City Pond roads,” said Rep. Fleming. “These improvements are much needed as Archer Aviation completes construction and begins production at their new facility in Covington. Governor Kemp’s continued commitment to providing our important industries with the resources they need to succeed and produce quality job growth in our community is to be commended.”

GDOT will commit up to $2,337,000 or 70 percent of the project cost, whichever is less, for these road improvements in Covington. The project will be funded out of the GDOT’s Local Maintenance & Improvement Grant (LMIG) Program.

“As Mayor of Covington, I would like to thank Governor Kemp and GDOT Commissioner McMurry for the approval of transportation funding for upgrades on Williams and City Pond Roads in Covington, Georgia,” said Covington Mayor Steve Horton. “These improvements are vital to our community in its road improvement efforts that are needed to support Archer Aviation as it completes construction and begins production at their new facility in Covington. Governor Kemp’s continued commitment to economic development is helping Covington and other communities all across our “great state” to create the quality job growth that our citizens need. I would also like to thank State Representative Tim Fleming for his continued community support.”

GDOT’s LMIG program provides funds to local governments to perform improvements to their roadway network each year. The LMIG program is funded by a percentage of the state motor fuel tax. The LMIG program seeks to allow local governments greater flexibility and quicker project delivery.
