ATLANTA — The Georgia Water Coalition (GWC) honored State Representative Scot Turner (R-Holly Springs) Tuesday with a Clean Water Champion Award at their Spring Partner meeting in Covington. Rep. Turner was honored for his support of Georgia’s rivers, lakes, groundwater and streams during the 2015 legislative session.
“It is a great honor to be named as a Clean Water Champion by the Georgia Water Coalition for the second year in a row,” said Rep. Turner. “This year’s honorees come from all over the state and represent all points on the political spectrum, proving that the environment is not a partisan issue. In fact we all share a common interest in making sure that we have clean water, and we showed we can be advocates for that and good governance at the same time.”
The Georgia Water Coalition is an association of more than 200 conservation and environmental organizations, hunting and fishing groups, businesses, and community organizations that have been working to protect Georgia’s water since 2002. Their mission is “to protect and care for Georgia’s water resources, which are essential for sustaining Georgia’s prosperity, providing clean and abundant drinking water, preserving diverse aquatic habitats for wildlife and recreation, and strengthening property values.” It is estimated that their organization encompasses more than 250,000 Georgians, while consistently expanding their reach.
“Clean water must be a priority for all Georgians,” said Rep. Turner.
Representative Scot Turner represents the citizens of District 21, which includes portions of Cherokee County. He was elected into the House of Representatives in 2013, and currently serves on the Agriculture & Consumer Affairs, Science and Technology, Special Rules, State Planning & Community Affairs committees.
