ATLANTA— State Representative Valencia Stovall (D-Lake City) ), along with the American Federation for Children and other local organizations, recently hosted a free screening of the film Selma. The event took place on Saturday, January 24, 2015, at AMC Southlake 24 in Morrow and was a collaborative effort led by Sharon Daniel, Board Chair for Utopian Academy for the Arts.
“This was an amazing educational opportunity to experience the injustice felt for basic equal rights and to understand how a group of dedicated people can initiate change for the better,” said Rep. Stovall. “This film offers the needed inspiration to activate our community to become involved in crucial areas such as education and economic development and voter empowerment in Clayton County and the state of Georgia.”
The event, which attracted 1,200 viewers, was a collaborative effort led by Sharon Daniel, Board Chair for Utopian Academy for the Arts.
“I’m extremely excited about the overwhelming response from the community,” said Sharon Daniel. “It is imperative that the youth of today understand, remember and honor the past.”
