ATLANTA – State Representative Vance Smith (R-Pine Mountain) was recently recognized by The Association County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG) with a 2021 ACCG Legislative Service Award. The ACCG Legislative Service Awards program honors state House and Senate members for their work during the legislative session.
“I am honored to be recognized by ACCG with the Legislative Service Award,” said Rep. Smith. “Having been a Harris County commissioner, I enjoy working with the association to promote ideas that benefit all the citizens of Georgia. I look forward to a continued working relationship.”
ACCG recognized Rep. Smith for his work on House Bill 449. HB 449, sponsored by Rep. Smith, was the result of many month’s work and a multi-stakeholder compromise on revising Georgia’s call before you dig law. ACCG expressed its support for Rep. Smith’s original bill, and the bill was later amended in the Senate. Rep. Smith opposed the Senate’s changes, which resulted in the legislation failing to pass during the 2021 session. ACCG continues to work with Rep. Smith and others to continue to reach an acceptable compromise on this legislation.
“ACCG is, yet again, pleased to honor our state legislators through the Association’s Legislative Service Awards program,” said Executive Director Dave Wills. “The significance of collaboration between state and local government continues to be underscored with issues like public health, public safety, and elections in the forefront. This award program offers our appreciation to our state elected leaders for their work to advance Georgia’s counties.”
ACCG is Georgia’s county association and works on behalf of county officials and their communities by providing public policy and legislative advocacy, leadership development, civic and community engagement initiatives, insurance and retirement programs that specialize in local government needs and other cost-saving programs. Formed in 1914 when county officials came together to help fund the state’s first highway department, ACCG today serves as a catalyst for advancing Georgia’s counties.
