ATLANTA – State Representative Vernon Jones (D-Lithonia) yesterday visited the White House and participated in a roundtable discussion led by President Donald Trump on law enforcement and community relations on Monday, July 13, 2020.
“It was an honor to join President Trump and other incredible leaders during this roundtable discussion as I expressed my concerns regarding local municipalities defunding law enforcement agencies,” said Rep. Jones. “The president listened closely to me and others as we told our stories about how important it is to support the honorable men and women who proudly wear the uniform protecting and serving across this nation. I am even more convinced of the president’s commitment to protecting law enforcement and creating safer communities for all Americans.”
At the roundtable discussion, Rep. Jones had the opportunity to address President Trump, Vice President Mike Pence and Attorney General William Barr to discuss increasing funding for local law enforcement agencies to invest in less lethal equipment. The roundtable discussion also focused on positive actions between local law enforcement agencies and their surrounding communities, as well as various ways such relations can be improved across the country.
