Rep. Waites Salutes the Youth of The Main Street Academy

ATLANTA – State Representative Keisha Waites (D-Atlanta) congratulates the students of The Main Street Academy of College Park for winning “Best Presentation” in this year’s First Lego League robotic competition.

“I am so proud of the incredible students who participated in this competition, and I would like to thank the coaches who volunteer and give generously of their time to these students,” said Rep. Waites. “After working with the schools in my district, I am so glad to see the success of the children in supplemental educational enrichment activities, and I am proud to be a part of the positive changes coming in my district.”

Main Street Academy students who competed in the First Lego League: Marc Bynoe; Victoria Coleman; Courtney Davis; Sanaa Findlay; Travis McDonald; Ezekiel Muhammad; Mylz Oliver; Zion Sykes; Cameron Turner; Isabella Whitesides; and Amari Woods.

Rep. Waites has visited The Main Street Academy campus multiple times, and has seen firsthand the great work of the administration, staff, and parents.

“I truly hope that this learning environment will help change the pattern of generational poverty and chronic unemployment that causes many students to struggle to graduate from high school in District 60,” said Rep. Waites.

The students of The Main Street Academy competed against 25 other teams from around the state on December 1st, in Kennesaw, Georgia. The group won “Best Presentation” for their research of Alzheimer’s disease and their creative solutions for assisting seniors who have the disease. The mission of the First Lego League is to get children excited about science and technology, and teach them valuable employment and life skills.
