ATLANTA — State Representative Keisha Waites (D-Atlanta) will meet with policy experts and young elected officials from around the country in Atlanta this week to develop innovative policy solutions for Georgia.
Serving on the Transportation and Public Safety Policy Council for the Young Elected Officials Network (YEO), Rep. Waites will have a chance to shape policy on the top issues facing Georgia, as well as communities across the country. The elected officials in the Policy Councils are responsible for leading the YEO Network’s policy efforts in each issue area by actively participating in the development, dissemination, and implementation of a progressive policy agenda.
Over the course of the year, Rep. Waites and fellow Policy Council members will develop a policy agenda, including state, local, and school level policy goals; participate in the presentation of policy priorities and strategies at the YEO National Convening; and assist fellow elected officials in implementing these policies nationwide.
“The YEO Network exists to equip elected officials with the tools necessary to transform their innovative ideas into action,” said Andrew Gillum, YEO Network Executive Director. “The policies and information shared between YEOs and our policy organization partners are designed to help YEOs better address the problems they confront every day in their communities.”
The Young Elected Officials Network, a program of People For the American Way Foundation, unites and supports young leaders who share a passion for building communities that reflect the values of freedom, fairness, and opportunity for all.
Representative Keisha Waites represents the citizens of District 60, which includes portions of Clayton and Fulton counties. She was elected into the House of Representatives in 2012, and currently serves on the Interstate Cooperation, Juvenile Justice, Public Safety and Homeland Security, Special Rules, and Transportation committees.
