ATLANTA – State Representative Andrew Welch (R-Locust Grove), Chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Public Safety, today announced the passage of House Bill 684. HB 684 is the Fiscal Year 2019 (FY 2019) budget, and the bill passed the House on Friday, March 9, 2018, by a vote of 155-14.
“As a member of the House Appropriations Committee and the Chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Public Safety, I can confidently say that my fellow committee members and I carefully crafted the 2019 state budget to meet the wide-ranging and diverse needs of our state and its citizens,” said Rep. Welch. “I would like to commend Chairman Terry England and the members of the Appropriations Committee for their hard work throughout the budget process, as well as the House Budget and Research Office for their diligent efforts in helping to draft the budget. HB 684 is a result of the tireless work of many moving parts, and I’m proud of the FY 2019 budget.
The Georgia General Assembly is constitutionally required to pass a balanced budget each year. The FY 2019 state budget, which was drafted by the House Appropriations Committee, is $50.85 billion and will guide Georgia’s spending from July 1, 2018, to June 30, 2019. The FY 2019 state budget was determined by a revenue estimate of $26 billion, which is an increase of $1.03 billion, or 4.1 percent, over the Fiscal Year 2018 budget.
