ATLANTA – State Representative Andrew Welch (R-Locust Grove) today announced that the Georgia House of Representatives unanimously passed Senate Bill 118 on March 15, 2018. SB 118 would expand the age limit and increase insurance coverage for autism spectrum disorders.
“The measure responds to many families who have reached out to me for assistance regarding the medical costs of autism,” said Rep. Welch. “SB 118 will raise the age of coverage from six years-old to 20-years old and increases insurance coverage for autism spectrum disorders, which will help offset medical costs for Georgia families with autistic youth.”
If the Senate agrees to the House’s amendments, SB 118 will increase the coverage limit from $30,000 per year to $35,000 per year. Additionally, SB 118 would ensure that insurers provide coverage for applied behavior analysis, which is recognized as medically necessary for autism treatment. If signed into law, SB 118 would take effect on Jan. 1, 2019.
