ATLANTA – State Representative Winfred Dukes (D-Albany) will hold a press conference to announce Nigel’s Law, proposed legislation which would increase sentencing for individuals who commit crimes against minors and senior citizens, TODAY, Wednesday, August 18, 2021, at 4 p.m. in room 100 of the Albany Government Center.
Rep. Dukes will discuss his plans to introduce Nigel’s Law during the 2022 legislative session. Rep. Dukes will be joined by Gregory Edwards, district attorney of Dougherty County; Albany Police Chief Michael Persley; and Dougherty County Commissioner Gloria Gaines. Edwards will highlight the merits of the proposal and other gun-related offenses that could be addressed by the legislature. Edwards will also provide assurances to the public that while he is engaged in the Nigel Brown matter, other cases are moving forward. Chief Persley will provide an update on the status of the case. Commissioner Gaines will announce contributions to the family.
Nigel Brown was 9 years old when he was killed during a drive-by shooting in Albany earlier this month.
