ATLANTA – On January 15, 2009, the Committee on Assignments announced the committee assignments for the 2009 – 2010 legislative sessions. Representative Charlice Byrd was appointed Vice-Chairman of the Children & Youth Committee; Secretary of the Science & Technology Committee; and member of the Economic Development & Tourism; Health & Human Services; and Judiciary Non-Civil Committees.
“I’m excited about my committee assignments and eager to get to work,” said Rep. Byrd. “We’re facing tough economic times and tough fiscal choices, but we can’t lose sight of our future. Even during these difficult and challenging times, we must continue moving forward and investing in our future.”
The Committee on Assignments is chaired by Speaker Glenn Richardson and includes several other members of House leadership. This committee is in charge of deciding House Floor seating, office, and committee assignments. The committee was first created in 2005 in an attempt to make a more open selection process.
“Congratulations to Representative Byrd on her assignments and responsibilities as we start the 2009 Session,” said Speaker Glenn Richardson. “The assignments announced today represent the right balance of skills, leadership and experience to continue leading the House.”
