ATLANTA – Yesterday the Committee on Assignments, chaired by Speaker Glenn Richardson, announced the committee assignments for the 2009 – 2010 legislative sessions. Representative Chuck Sims was appointed Chairman of the Information and Audits Committee, Vice-Chair of the Ways and Means Committee, Ex-Officio of the Appropriations Committee, and member of the Higher Education, and State Planning and Community Affairs Committees.
“I’m very happy and humbled to be named Chairman of the Info and Audits Committee and Vice-Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee,” said Rep. Sims. “I appreciate the confidence that Speaker Richardson and House leadership have in me and my abilities. I’m also proud to serve on the Appropriations, Higher Education, and State Planning and Community Affairs Committees. I look forward to working with those committees and all my colleagues in the House and Senate.”
The Committee on Assignments is chaired by the Speaker and includes several other members of House leadership. This committee is in charge of deciding House Floor seating, office, and committee assignments. The committee was first created in 2005 in an attempt to make a more open selection process.
“Congratulations to Representative Sims on his assignments and responsibilities as we start the 2009 Session,” said Speaker Glenn Richardson. “The assignments announced today represent the right balance of skills, leadership and experience to continue leading the House.”
