ATLANTA—Georgia State Representative Barry Fleming (R-Augusta), Majority Whip, today announced that he has tapped State Representative Clay Cox (R-Lilburn) to serve as Chief Deputy Whip for the 2007-2008 legislative term. Cox served as a Deputy Whip for the 2005-2006 legislative term.
“Since joining the House, Representative Cox has exemplified strong leadership skills and a commitment to advancing our common-sense, conservative vision for Georgia,” Fleming said. “I have every confidence that he will be an asset to my team and an invaluable help in determining the leanings of the Majority Caucus.”
Deputy Whips will be assigned to members of the Republican Caucus to provide thoughts and feedback from Representatives to the House Leadership. When key legislation is presented for consideration on the House floor, Deputy Whips will assist the Majority Whip in gathering information about the leanings of caucus members.
The Deputy Whips are Representatives Clay Cox serving as Chief Deputy Whip, Martin Scott serving as Assistant Chief Deputy Whip, Doug Collins, Katie Dempsey, Melvin Everson, Allen Freeman, Mark Hatfield, Billy Horne, Mike Keown, Roger Lane, Ed Lindsey, Jay Neal, Ed Setzler, Barbara Sims, and Willie Talton.
