ATLANTA – On January 15, 2009, the Committee on Assignments, chaired by Speaker Glenn Richardson, announced the committee assignments for the 2009 – 2010 legislative sessions. Representative Greg Morris was appointed Chairman of the Code Revision Committee, Vice-Chair of the Natural Resources and Environment Committee, and member of the Appropriations, Rules, and Banks and Banking Committees.
This is Rep. Morris first term as a member of the Rules Committee.
“I am honored to be appointed to these influential committees,” said Rep. Morris. “I can think of no other time in our state’s history when it has been as important to be involved with the appropriations process as now. Some tough choices are going to be made and it’s important that our community has a voice at the table. These committee assignments will allow me to be that voice.”
The Committee on Assignments is chaired by the Speaker and includes several other members of House leadership. This committee is in charge of deciding House Floor seating, office, and committee assignments. The committee was first created in 2005 in an attempt to make a more open selection process.
“Congratulations to Representative Morris on his assignments and responsibilities as we start the 2009 Session,” said Speaker Glenn Richardson. “The assignments announced today represent the right balance of skills, leadership and experience to continue leading the House.”
