ATLANTA – The March/April 2010 edition of James Magazine named State Representative Lynn Smith (R-Newnan) one of the Most Influential Georgians of 2010. Of everyone selected to receive this honor, Rep. Smith is the only elected official from Coweta and Heard counties that James Magazine chose to recognize.“It is an honor to be recognized by James Magazine alongside other leaders throughout the state,” said Rep. Lynn Smith. “But, even more importantly, it is a privilege and responsibility to be chosen by the citizens of HD 70 to be their voice in our state government.”
James Magazine is Georgia’s only monthly news magazine and is widely considered one of the state’s top resources for Georgia political news and issues. In a list that has become an annual tradition, naming the “who’s who” of Georgia, the “2010 Most Influential Georgians” also includes House Speaker David Ralston (R- Blue Ridge), U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson, Georgia Department of Transportation Commissioner Vance Smith and Georgia Department of Economic Development Commissioner Ken Stewart.
“As Chairman of the House Natural Resources and Environment Committee, Lynn not only seeks, but succeeds in balancing quality of life issues with sound economic growth policies,” said Speaker David Ralston. “She does this while also tirelessly advocating for her constituents in HD 70.”
Rep. Smith has an extensive record of legislative accomplishments. During this year’s legislative session, she was a key sponsor of the 2010 Water Stewardship Act. This bill allows Georgia to take a big step forward in meeting the state’s long-term water supply needs while emphasizing conservation measures. She also carried the Georgia Government Accountability Act, Senate Bill 148, which will give the state another method to find greater efficiencies and cost-savings in state government. The legislation requires the General Assembly to regularly review state regulations and determine whether existing state agencies are still accomplishing their stated goals for Georgia taxpayers. Both pieces of legislation are now under consideration by Governor Perdue.
In recent years, Rep. Smith was the primary sponsor of the 2008 State Wide Water Plan and the 2005 Land Conservation Act. As the state representative from HD 70, Rep. Smith also spearheaded the creation of Chattahoochee Bend State Park.

In addition to chairing several committees such as the Newnan-Coweta Chamber of Commerce, the Newnan-Coweta Public Library, and the Newnan Junior Service League, she has given of her time to several other worthy causes and organizations. She and her husband, Charles, recently retired as business owners from Murray Printing Co., an on going business established in 1845. She also taught in the Coweta County School system and continues to be a school volunteer in the HD 70 community.
