ATLANTA – State Representative Lynn Smith (R-Newnan), recently served as a keynote panel speaker at the 5th Annual Georgia Environmental Conference. As Chairman of the House Committee on Natural Resources and Environment, Rep. Smith shared her unique understanding of Georgia’s environmental issues during the “State of the State” panel discussion.
“It was an honor to be a part of this key panel and help Georgia’s government leaders and business professionals better understand our current and long term water needs,” said Rep. Smith. “Events like this offer a unique opportunity for policy makers, academic experts, and professionals to come together and discuss the major issues facing our state.”
During this year’s legislative session, Rep. Smith was a key sponsor of the 2010 Water Stewardship Act. This legislation will help the state meet its long-term water supply needs while emphasizing conservation measures.
Other participants on the “State of the State” panel were Jim Stokes, the President of Sustainable Solutions Georgia; Allen Barnes, Director of the Environmental Protection Division; and State Senator Ross Tolleson, Chairman of the Senate Natural Resources and the Environment Committee.
The Annual Georgia Environmental Conference is billed as the state’s largest and most comprehensive educational opportunity for professionals practicing in the environmental arena. This year’s 5th Annual Georgia Environmental Conference was held in Savannah, Georgia from August 25-27. An estimated 550 individuals attended the conference, including government officials, business and industry leaders, engineers, developers, land owners, architects, agribusiness leaders, energy experts, and public health officials.
