ATLANTA – State Representative Doug McKillip (R-Athens) announced today the introduction of House Bill 146, legislation creating a clean energy tax credit.
“HB 146 strikes the right balance between economic development and environmental conservation; it encourages immediate investment and job creation while also reducing pollution and our dependence on fossil fuels,” said Rep. McKillip. “I believe this bill is similar to the film industry tax credit, which has been very successful in generating investment and jobs in Georgia. Although this is an incredibly challenging budget cycle, I believe this is the kind of economic development measure we need.”
HB 146 would allow for a limited credit against tax liability for qualified clean energy expenditures made on residential or commercial property over the next four years. The legislation would apply to various clean energy sources, including solar, wind, biomass, and geothermal applications.
“This legislation is good for Georgia because it sends a message to the clean energy community that we are serious about attracting new clean industry investment and employers. It is good for Athens because we have one of the few producers of qualified solar equipment in the state – Power Partners LLC,” added Rep. McKillip.
