Representative Pruett Seeks Funds to Restore Lake at Little Ocmulgee State Park

ATLANTA – State Representative Jimmy Pruett (R-Eastman), a member of the House Budget Committee and the secretary of the Game, Fish, & Parks Committee, is currently seeking funds to restore the lake at Little Ocmulgee State Park in Helena, Ga. The 265 acre lake has incurred an overgrowth of aquatic vegetation, making it less attractive for tourists.

“The lake has become an eyesore and has caused the park to lose revenue,” said Rep. Pruett. “Fortunately, we are blessed with dedicated volunteers who are willing to put in long hours to preserve the beauty of Ocmulgee. These volunteers are simply waiting on the financial assistance they need to get the park back to operating at its full potential.”

Representative Pruett’s work to restore the lake at Little Ocmulgee State Park is part of his larger mission to preserve the natural wildlife in Georgia.

“I specifically requested to be assigned to the Game, Fish, & Parks Committee, because I wanted to help preserve Georgia’s beautiful wildlife. Now, I am thankful to be in a position where I can help restore Lake Little Ocmulgee by seeking these essential funds,” said Rep. Pruett.

Little Ocmulgee Lake offers boating, fishing, canoe and pedal boat rentals, and 10 lake view cottages. In an effort to control the vegetation, water levels have been lowered through the winter season.

Representative Jimmy Pruett represents the citizens of District 144, which includes Bleckley, Dodge, and Wilcox Counties and portions of Ben Hill and Pulaski Counties. He was elected into the House of Representatives in 2006, and serves as Vice Chairman for the Children & Youth Committee, Vice Chairman for Economic Development & Tourism Committee and Secretary for the Game, Fish, & Parks Committee. He also currently serves on the Appropriations and Industrial Relations Committees. He can be reached at Jimmy.Pruett@house.ga.gov or 404-651-7737.
