Representative Smith Appointed Vice-Chair of NCSL Committee

ATLANTA – Georgia State Representative Lynn Smith (R- Newnan) has been reappointed as the Vice-Chair of the Environment Committee for the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL). This will be her third term in the position, after first being appointed for the 2008 session, then again for the 2009 session.

“I’m honored to be reappointed to this important committee,” said Rep. Smith. “My position on this committee is especially important for Georgia now, as our state wrestles with the impact of Judge Magnuson’s ruling limiting Georgia’s access to the federally-created reservoir, Lake Lanier. As Vice-Chair I will be able to make leaders of other states aware of this ruling, seek out other states with similar situations, and gain insight into how other states have resolved their water sharing issues.”
NCSL is a bipartisan organization that serves legislators and staffs from the nation’s 50 states, commonwealths and territories. It provides research, technical assistance and opportunities for policymakers to exchange ideas on the most pressing state issues. The leadership of NCSL is composed of state legislators and staff from across the country.
The Environment Committee is one of 12 Standing Committees of NCSL. The committee covers state and federal natural resources legislation, regulations and policies. The committee educates the U.S. Congress and federal agencies about state concerns related to these issues. In addition, the Committee serves as a forum for legislators and legislative staff to learn about and share information about policy options being considered in other states.
