ATLANTA – This week, state Representative Mickey Stephens (D- Savannah) led the Georgia House of Representatives in recognizing Savannah Chapter #159 of the Order of the Eastern Star, in addition to highlighting the service of chapter member Ella Young Scott.
“It was an honor to recognize the fine men and women of Savannah Chapter #159 of the Order of the Eastern Star,” said Representative Stephens. “Mrs. Ella Young Scott and the other members of this chapter have contributed much service to the city of Savannah and the state of Georgia as a whole.”
In honor of the Savannah Chapter #159 of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Georgia House of Representatives adopted House Resolution 1473 on Thursday, February 18, 2010.
The chapter was established on August 12, 1912, in order to uplift the lives of others and build hope within the community. Members of the chapter complete service projects like feeding the homeless, providing clothes to shelters, and donating food baskets during the holidays. The chapter also sponsors programs that promote community health, cultural awareness, education and youth.
Mrs. Ella Young Scott has been a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for 52 years. During that time, she has selflessly served her community, earning the title “Mama Scott.” To commemorate her dedication to the chapter and service to Savannah, the Georgia House of Representatives adopted House Resolution 1453 on Tuesday, March 30, 2010. The resolution recognizes Mrs. Scott for her efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service to her community.
