House Budget Includes Additional Education Funding for Tift County Schools

ATLANTA – The House Legislative Delegation of Tift County, which includes State Representatives Penny Houston (R-Nashville), Jay Roberts (R-Ocilla) and Sam Watson (R-Moultrie), announced today that the Georgia House of Representatives’ Amended Fiscal Year 2014 (AFY 2014) state budget includes an addition of $83,027 for the Tift County Board of Education. This announcement comes following today’s House passage of HB 743. The AFY 2014 budget is the state’s mid-year spending plan which helps fund the final few months of the current fiscal year. Rep. Jay Roberts Named to Southern Legislative Conference Agriculture & Rural Development Committee

ATLANTA— House Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge) today announced the appointment of state Representative Jay Roberts (R-Ocilla) to the Southern Legislative Conference (SLC) Agriculture & Rural Development Committee. As the presiding officer of the Georgia House of Representatives, Speaker Ralston is charged with selecting members to represent Georgia within SLC.

Rep. Jay Roberts Travels to Panama for Tour and Briefing on Panama Canal Expansion

ATLANTA – State Representative Jay Roberts (R-Ocilla), chair of the Georgia House Transportation Committee, recently traveled with six fellow state transportation leaders from five other Southern states to Panama for high-level briefings on the Panama Canal expansion project. The agenda allowed the delegation to learn more about the need for Southern ports to continue essential infrastructure enhancements that will be necessary to accommodate the significantly larger vessels and expanded cargo volumes expected to arrive after the completion of the Panama Canal expansion.
