Speaker Jon Burns Announces Appointments to Literacy Task Force

ATLANTA – Today, Speaker of the House Jon Burns (R-Newington) announced his appointments to the Georgia Literacy Task Force. Each appointee has been determined by the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement to meet the qualifications and criteria established under the Georgia Early Literacy Act of 2026. The task force will be responsible for evaluating and recommending key components of Georgia’s historic literacy reform, including professional learning programs, reading screeners and high-quality instructional materials aligned with the state’s science-based literacy standards.

State Leaders Announce Appointments to Election Equipment Specifications and Standards Committee

ATLANTA – Today, Governor Brian P. Kemp, Speaker of the Georgia House of Representatives Jon Burns (R–Newington) and the Senate Committee on Assignments announced appointments to the Election Equipment Specifications and Standards Committee. The bipartisan legislative panel was established by Senate Bill 3EX, authored by Sen. Max Burns, during the 2026 Special Legislative Session to develop recommendations for Georgia’s next uniform election system.

Rep. Lynn Smith Adjourns House Sine Die for 2026 Special Legislative Session Ahead of Retirement

ATLANTA – State Representative Lynn Smith (R-Newnan), chair of the House Natural Resources and Environment Committee, was recently honored for her legislative service in the Georgia House by presiding over the House Chamber to adjourn Sine Die for the 2026 special legislative session, marking the end her final legislative term before retirement from the General Assembly.

ATLANTA – Today, House Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington) announced appointments to study committees for the 2026 interim. The House Blue-Ribbon Study Committees, Joint Study Committees and House Study Committees will work throughout the interim to gather the facts and hear from citizens, experts and stakeholders on key policy areas impacting Georgia.
