ATLANTA – The Closing the Achievement Gap Education Summit, co-sponsored by both Rep. Alisha Morgan (D-Austell) and Rep. Virgil Fludd (D-Tyrone), will take place at the State Capitol today, May 18th from 4 PM – 7 PM. The Summit will include an action center to connect stakeholders with advocacy organizations, followed by seminars in how the current achievement gap in Georgia education affects graduation rates and higher education. The Summit will conclude with a rally on the Capitol steps with remarks from civic and community leaders. ATLANTA – On Wednesday, May 6, 2009, Governor Sonny Perdue signed House Bill 251 into law. This legislation was authored by Representative Alisha Thomas Morgan (D- Austell) to allow students to transfer from one school to another in the same school district, provided there is room.
