ATLANTA – Today, Georgia House Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington) announced the hire of Kayla Roberson as the Communications Director within his office. As communications director, she will oversee all external communication, media relations and strategic messaging for Speaker Burns. Stephen Lawson, who served as Speaker Burns’ senior communications advisor, will transition back into the private sector.

Governor Kemp Signs Legislation Designating White Shrimp as the Official State Crustacean

ATLANTA – Yesterday, Speaker of the House Jon Burns (R-Newington), State Representative Steven Sainz (R-St Marys), chairman of the House Special Rules Committee, and other legislators joined Governor Brian Kemp in Brunswick, Ga. as he signed House Bill 1341 into law. Sponsored by Rep. Sainz and a priority of the First Lady of the House Dayle Burns, this legislation designates White Shrimp as the official state crustacean of Georgia.

Governor Kemp Signs Legislation to Enhance Georgia’s Education System

Georgia Promise Scholarship Act Among Signed Legislation

ATLANTA – Today, Speaker of the House Jon Burns (R-Newington) and other legislators joined Governor Brian Kemp at Liberty Plaza in Atlanta, Ga. as he signed several bills into law to bolster Georgia’s education system. Gov. Kemp signed House Bills 318, 409, and 1122, as well as Senate Bills 233, 351, 395, and 464. Several of these legislative initiatives were identified as priorities by the House and Senate during the 2024 legislative session, including Senate Bill 233, the Georgia Promise Scholarship Act.

Certificate of Need Legislation Signed into Law

ATLANTA – Today, Chairman Butch Parrish (R-Swainsboro) and other legislators joined Governor Brian Kemp at the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga. as he signed House Bill 1339 into law. HB 1339 was sponsored by Chairman Parrish and co-sponsored by House Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington) and reforms Georgia’s certificate of need (CON) laws.
