ATLANTA – State Representative Mary Frances Williams (D-Marietta) recently worked to amend House Bill 927, legislation which would require companies that use ethylene oxide gas to report releases of the gas in Georgia. An amended version of HB 927, which includes language changes requested by Rep. Williams, was passed out of the House Natural Resources and Environment Committee on Thursday, March 5, 2020. The updated version of the bill would require the Environmental Protection Division (EPD) to publicly report all releases of ethylene oxide from facilities, such as the Sterigenics plant in Cobb County. Georgia Legislators File Toxic Coal Ash Clean Up Bill
ATLANTA – Legislation was dropped in the hopper today and will be read for the first time tomorrow in the Georgia House of Representatives to update Georgia’s toxic coal ash disposal procedures. State Representatives Erick Allen (D-Smyrna), Mary Margaret Oliver (D-Decatur), Debbie Buckner (D-Junction City), Jasmine Clark (D-Lilburn), Mary Frances Williams (D-Marietta) and Minority Leader Bob Trammell (D-Luthersville) are co-sponsors of the legislation, House Bill 756. Rep. Mary Frances Williams Introduces Resolution Urging Georgia Power to Remove Unlined Coal Ash Pile
ATLANTA – State Representative Mary Frances Williams (D-Marietta) today introduced a House Resolution urging Georgia Power to remove all buried and unburied coal ash piles from Plant McDonough and place it in a lined landfill. Plant McDonough, owned by Georgia Power, is located in Cobb County on the banks of the Chattahoochee River, and there is 6.3 million tons of coal ash at the plant. Continue reading “Rep.
