Rep. Efstration Introduces Anti-Human Trafficking Protective Response Act

ATLANTA – State Representative Chuck Efstration (R-Dacula) recently introduced House Bill 234, the Anti-Human Trafficking Protective Response Act. The Anti-Human Trafficking Protective Response Act would provide additional safety measures and protections against human trafficking.

“HB 234 gives law enforcement tools to investigate and prosecute those who enable human trafficking by expanding Georgia’s criminal and nuisance laws,” said Rep. Efstration. “The bill also provides that rescued child victims should receive trauma-informed treatment rather than being subjected to arrest and treatment as a criminal.”

“Chairman Efstration’s bill combats an evil that is shocking in both its depravity and its breadth,” said Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge). “Human trafficking is a scourge that must be wiped out, and our House of Representatives is committed to that fight. I appreciate Chairman Efstration’s work to protect the most vulnerable among us.”

The Anti-Human Trafficking Protective Response Act would also allow the Department of Family and Children Services the ability to provide more care and supervision to children who are victims of human trafficking. Additionally, HB 234 would expand current prohibitions against trafficking of persons, while also increasing penalties for certain sex crimes and will allow investigators to have more access to the locations where the crimes take place.
