ATLANTA – State Representatives Mike Cheokas (R-Americus), chairman of the House Small Business Development Committee, and Matt Reeves (R-Duluth), vice-chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, will host a hybrid informational press conference to discuss the three statewide tax referendums, TOMORROW, Thursday, October 24, 2024, at 1 p.m. at One Sugarloaf Centre in Duluth, Georgia, and via Zoom for those who cannot participate in-person.
During the 2023–2024 legislative term, Chairman Cheokas sponsored House Bill 808, legislation that would allow for an increased exemption from property tax for all tangible personal property from $7,500 to $20,000. This legislation was signed by Governor Brian Kemp following the adjournment of the 2024 legislative session and will now be on the November 5, 2024, ballot. Rep. Reeves also worked on this legislation, and other pro-taxpayer measures, during the 2023-2024 term.
