ATLANTA – State Representatives Kim Schofield (D-Atlanta), Rhonda Burnough (D-Riverdale) and Sandra Scott (D-Rex) today issued the following statements regarding the recent shooting deaths of two Cobb County police officers, Deputy Marshall Samuel Erving Jr. and Deputy Jonathan Randall Koleski, who were shot and killed in the line of duty while attempting to serve a warrant at a Cobb County residence:
“I am sending my heartfelt prayers and condolences to the families of Cobb County deputies Marshall Samuel Erving Jr. and Jonathan Randall Koleski,” said Rep. Schofield. “What angers me is that an unnecessary act of violence and unrestricted gun use has cost these public servants their lives. The mental and physical actions of one have devastated an entire community, and we cannot keep failing to protect those who protect us.”
“As the daughter of a police officer, it is terrifying to watch your loved one risk their lives in the line of duty,” said Rep. Burnough. “While we must work to stop police brutality, we must also condemn violence against our police officers. We cannot live in a lawless society without them. I am praying for the families of these two brave police officers.”
“My condolences to the family of these slain officers, the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office and the county’s first responders during this difficult time,” said Rep. Scott. “My heart cries out every day over the rise of senseless gun violence across our country. Georgia’s leaders must come together and create some common sense gun legislation before another officer in our state is gunned down while serving their community.”
