ATLANTA – State Representatives Viola Davis (D-Stone Mountain) and Angie O’Steen (R-Ambrose) recently celebrated Nurses Day at the Capitol, an annual event that seeks to recognize the contributions of nurses to healthcare and the well-being of communities across the state.
On February 19, 2025, Reps. Davis and O’Steen introduced House Resolution 280 to recognize nurses for their commitment to patient care, advocacy and leadership in improving healthcare outcomes.
“The strength of our healthcare system relies on the dedication and hard work of nurses,” said Rep. Davis. “It is an honor to recognize their service and advocate for policies that support their profession and improve healthcare for Georgians.”
“I became a registered nurse in 1997 and hold a deep, abiding appreciation for the hard work and sacrifices made by the dedicated nurses across the State of Georgia,” said Rep. O’Steen. “They, along with countless others, mitigated Georgians out of the Covid-19 pandemic with fortitude and resilience. It is my honor and privilege to recognize, in my biased opinion, the foundation by which healthcare is built upon in our great state.”
Reps. Davis and O’Steen recognized nurses in the gallery during a Morning Order. President of the Georgia Nurses Association Erica Mills and President-Elect Delegate at Large Joy L. King were present at the event.
The event aimed to highlight the need for continued legislative efforts to support the nursing workforce, address healthcare challenges and ensure that nurses have the resources and recognition they deserve.
