ATLANTA—Speaker of the House Glenn Richardson (R-Hiram) has tapped State Representative Penny Houston to serve on the State Health Benefit Plan Design Team.
“I am pleased that Representative Houston has accepted this responsibility,” Richardson said. “I am confident that she will do a great job for our state.”
With the cost of health claims rising significantly each year, there is a need to improve the benefits provided, streamline the provision of services, enhance the overall efficiency of the system, and find new and innovative ways to contain these costs. HR 1535, creating the design team, is needed so a careful study can be undertaken to determine areas where rising costs can be contained, and a more cost effective plan design can be created to better meet the needs of covered individuals.
The committee was created by the passage of House Resolution 1535, authored by Rep. Austin Scott. The design team will conclude its meetings by December 31, 2006.
