ATLANTA – Speaker of the Georgia House of Representatives David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge) issued the following statement on the tragedy which occurred last night in Charleston, S.C.:
“I want to offer my condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the tragedy at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston last night. Among the victims was South Carolina State Senator and Pastor of that congregation, the Rev. Clementa Pinckney. He gave his life while spreading the word of the Lord and serving his community.
Every person, regardless of race or background, deserves the right to worship God and fellowship free from fear of attack. We will never tolerate violence – particularly when committed on sacred ground. Those who would commit such horrific acts should be brought to justice. I am grateful that authorities acted swiftly, and I am relieved that the suspected murderer is now in police custody.”
