ATLANTA – House Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington) and House Majority Leader Chuck Efstration (R-Auburn) commend House Speaker Pro Tempore Jan Jones (R-Milton) for her unwavering commitment to serving the people of Georgia as she continues her dedicated efforts following the conclusion of the 2024 legislative session.
“I am very grateful for Speaker Pro Tem Jan Jones decision to return to the House and serve another term,” said Speaker Burns. “She has the full weight and support of myself and the caucus, and I know she will continue delivering results for her constituents. Working together, we will continue to lower costs for families, strengthen public safety, create better educational outcomes and make Georgia the best place to live, work and raise a family.”
“I am immensely grateful to Speaker Burns and the esteemed House leadership for their unwavering and invaluable support,” said Pro Tem Jones. “I am committed to fostering a prosperous future for all Georgians. I am running again because I have never felt more convicted that north Fulton and south Cherokee residents need strong, fearless and conservative leadership to protect their quality of life and values. I commit to vigorously fighting any legislation that would compromise the reasons residents call House District 47 home. I will also continue to advocate for policies to increase public safety, ease inflation caused by the failed policies of Washington D.C. and ensure that families are at the forefront of our policy decision, including education.”
“Speaker Pro Tem Jan Jones exemplifies the utmost dedication to the people of Georgia,” said Leader Efstration. “Her decision to continue her service is a testament to her commitment to our state’s prosperity and well-being. I am honored to continue to stand alongside her as we work tirelessly to advance the interests of all Georgians.”
In 2006, Speaker Pro Tem Jones spearheaded the establishment of the City of Milton and was subsequently named the “Mother of Milton” by the mayor and city council.
First elected to office in 2003, Speaker Pro Tem Jones has distinguished herself as a passionate advocate for changing lives and increasing economic opportunities through improved education and government closer to the people. Speaker Pro Tem Jones has made history by becoming the first female to serve as House Speaker Pro Tempore. She was first elected Speaker Pro Tempore in 2010 and served in that position until she was elevated to Speaker of the House in November 2022, following the passing of former House Speaker David Ralston. She was then elected as the Republican nominee for Speaker Pro Tempore for the 2023-24 term. She proudly serves House District 47 in northwest Fulton, covering Milton, Mountain Park, Roswell, Alpharetta and South Cherokee.
