ATLANTA – State Representative Darlene Taylor (R-Thomasville), chair of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Health, was recently chosen by House Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington) to serve as chair of the House Study Committee on Evaluating Funding for Public Health.
“Throughout my work on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Health, I have seen just how vital a strong and well-supported public health system is to the wellbeing of our communities,” said Chairlady Taylor. “This study committee presents an important opportunity to take a closer look at how our state funds public health, what services are being delivered and where we can improve. I am committed to ensuring that Georgia’s public health infrastructure is equipped to meet both current needs and future challenges.”
Created by House Resolution 847, this study committee will study how Georgia’s public health system is structured and funded and evaluate what services such system currently provides to determine whether action by the state is necessary.
Speaker Burns also appointed the following study committee members: State Representative Matt Hatchett (R-Dublin), State Representative Butch Parrish (R-Swainsboro), State Representative Dexter Sharper (D-Valdosta) and State Representative Angie O’Steen (R-Ambrose).
Representative Darlene Taylor represents the citizens of District 173, which includes portions of Grady and Thomas counties. She was elected to the House of Representatives in 2010 and currently serves as Chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Health and as Secretary of the Governmental Affairs Committee. She also serves on the Special Committee on Healthcare and the Agriculture & Consumer Affairs, Insurance, Public Health, Public Safety and Homeland Security, Reapportionment and Redistricting, Rules and Transportation committees.
