ATLANTA- House Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge) today announced John Walraven’s departure as legal counsel to the Speaker’s Office to pursue other opportunities.
“John’s keen legal sense and dedication to sound public policy made him a valuable part of the Speaker’s Office,” said House Speaker David Ralston. “I know he has a bright future ahead of him if his previous work is any indication of his success moving forward.”
As legal counsel to the House Speaker, Walraven worked on a variety of landmark pieces of legislation including the 2005 Ethics in Government Act; the 2005 Women’s Right to Know Act; the Water Conservation and Drought Relief Act of 2008; 2008 Certificate of Need (CON) reform legislation; the 2009 Transforming Transportation Investment Act; the 2010 Water Stewardship Act; the Georgia Trauma Trust Fund constitutional amendment to support a statewide trauma care network; the Georgia Government Transparency and Campaign Finance Act of 2010; and the Transportation Investment Act of 2010.
“It has been one of the greatest honors of my life to serve as Counsel to the Speaker and to this House,” said Mr. Walraven. “I have had the opportunity to work on policy that I believe will positively affect Georgia well into the future.”
Walraven served as legal counsel to the Speaker of the Georgia House of Representatives during the 2005 General Assembly legislative session. He returned to the Speaker’s Office to again serve as legal counsel during the 2008, 2009 and 2010 legislative sessions.
